My Story
Sara Silkwood is an illustrator and teacher with a background in classical drawing and visual storytelling. She teaches students how to understand what they see, organize visual information, and translate it into clear, intentional drawings.
In her classes, students learn to move beyond copying and begin thinking like artists. They develop skills in observation, structure, composition, and light, gaining the ability to create drawings that feel solid, readable, and purposeful. Over time, students grow in confidence as they learn to solve visual problems and make thoughtful artistic decisions.
Sara holds a BFA in Illustration from Syracuse University and has taught in a variety of settings, including classical schools, online courses, and community programs. Her teaching emphasizes clarity, structure, and the development of strong foundational skills that support long-term artistic growth.
Alongside her teaching, Sara creates narrative illustrations focused on character, environment, and story. Her work often centers on moments of tension or quiet discovery within imagined worlds, inviting the viewer to step into a larger story beyond the image.
Whether working with students or creating her own work, her focus remains the same: helping ideas become clear, visible, and meaningful through drawing.
